Dr. Dougan is an Associate Professor of Public Health at San Jose State University. Her approach to research, teaching, and service is interdisciplinary, providing practical solutions to improve population health outcomes. Her research focuses on cancer epidemiology, consequences of racial discrimination, and the effects of the coronavirus on marginalized populations. She has published in peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Cancer and American Journal of Epidemiology. Active in the Silicon Valley community, she is a director of the Valley Medical Center Foundation, the fundraising arm of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, which is committed to providing quality care regardless of ability to pay. Prior to her career in epidemiology, Dr Dougan served as a chemical engineer at Merck & Co., Inc. for more than 8 years in various roles including production engineer and technology transfer lead. Dr Dougan received postdoctoral training at Stanford University, where she examined risk factors for breast cancer progression. Dr Dougan holds a doctorate in epidemiology from Harvard University, a master’s in public health from Columbia University, a master’s in chemical engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine, University of London, and a graduate certificate in technology management from Stevens Institute of Technology. She completed her postdoctoral training at Stanford University.
